Star Anise Flavored Hojicha Milk Tea

I tend to prefer hot drinks when it gets cold in Japan. I decided to make hojicha milk tea and gave it a little twist by using star anise! ⭐️

:: Today’s Recipe ::
Star anise 3 broken pieces (Not the whole Star anise!)
Hojicha  8g
Water  150ml
Milk  150ml
Sugar As much as you like

  1. Put water and the star anise in a pot and allow it to boil.
  2. Add hojicha, turn the heat on low and leave it for 4 minutes.
  3. Add milk and turn the heat higher. Once it boils, turn the heat off.
  4. Pour it in to a cup through a tea strainer and add some sugar if you like.

You can also make hojicha milk tea without star anise using the above recipe.

Star anise is often used in Chinese food. The aroma is sweet and exotic! Even though the aroma is strong it’s not too strong overall. It adds an accent to the mild taste of the hojicha milk tea. I paired it with baumkuhen and it was delicious!! It must go well with pound cakes too.

I guess you can find star anise in the Asian aisle of a supermarket or at an Asian market. Please use this recipe if you feel like adding a twist to your normal tea drinking routine! 😉
